The Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University is now accepting applications for post-doctoral research fellow positions in transportation and mobility analytics. The positions will investigate the impact of on-demand and peer-to-peer platforms on urban transportation and mobility from technological, operational, managerial and public policy lenses.
The successful candidates will join an active group of researchers spanning multiple projects in consumer behavior, information systems, operations research, and transportation engineering. They will be affiliated with the Heinz College, and engage in interdisciplinary collaborations across Carnegie Mellon University with the Tepper School of Business, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Department of Engineering and Public Policy. They will also be part of the Mobility21 National University Transportation Center for Improving Mobility, aimed to develop and deploy technologies, policies, incentives and training programs for improving the mobility of people and goods in the 21st century, efficiently and safely. This position also offers an unprecedented opportunity to collaborate with firms and startups in the transportation industry.
Candidates should have a PhD in operations research, information systems, industrial engineering, civil engineering or a related field. Successful candidates will be proficient in one or several of the following methodological areas: large-scale deterministic optimization, stochastic optimization, stochastic modeling and simulation, network economics, quantitative models of consumer behavior, and econometrics. Programming proficiency is required. We look for candidates with excellent communication skills to interact with academics and industry practitioners alike. Demonstrated interdisciplinary research collaboration is a plus.
The successful candidates are expected to publish papers in top-level journals and conferences along with other faculty and students. They will report to Profs. Alexandre Jacquillat and Vibhanshu Abhishek and engage with other faculty, including Profs. Ramayya Krishnan, Beibei Li and Sean Qian. They will receive regular mentorship and training, and will be encouraged to disseminate research findings in major conferences and peer-reviewed publications, and to seek research funding. The appointment is for one year with option of renewal for a second year.
