Job Description:
The Systems Assessment Center (SAC) of Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) has a post-doctoral researcher position open for a candidate with strong expertise and experience in vehicle, energy or transportation systems analysis and modeling. Good understanding/background/skills in one or more of the following is a big plus:
- general operation of the transportation sector and of transportation systems within it
- emerging technologies (such as connected and automated vehicles, shared mobility, etc) and alternative fuels likely to be used in transportation systems,
- system modeling methodologies such as agent-based modeling/simulation
- energy and environmental impacts of transportation systems, modes and vehicle/fuel technologies
- various databases and analytical models and experience in analyzing large data sets
- computer programming (in Java, Python or a similar language), MS Excel, SAS and other relevant software
- vehicle to grid interaction
Potential projects include, but are not limited to, developing models to identify optimal locations for charging infrastructure or hydrogen filling stations under given conditions, the likely buildout of those locations into networks, and the effect of that buildout on market penetration and energy infrastructure.
Qualified individuals should have a Ph.D. degree in transportation, operations research, mechanical, environmental, power engineering, or a related field, and be familiar with energy and environmental impacts of transportation systems, modes and vehicle/fuel technologies. Good oral and written communication skills are also required. Start date is negotiable.
