The Chelliah Sriskandarajah Early Career Research Accomplishments Award
POMS 2022 - Thirty-Second Annual Conference, Orlando, FL, USA, April 21 - 25, 2022
The Chelliah Sriskandarajah Early Career Research Accomplishments Award (previously known as the "Wickham Skinner Early Career Research Accomplishments Award"), hereafter "the Award," will be presented during the POMS 2022 Annual Conference, Orlando, FL, U.S.A. For information about the conference and the Award, go to the POMS website: http://www.poms.org/
As a leading professional society in the field of production and operations management, POMS has the responsibility to shape the development of this field through recognizing and rewarding academics who have achieved unusually high accomplishment early in their careers.
For the Award, there will be at most two winners: first place with a prize of $1,000 and the runner‐up with a prize of $500, or if both tied for the first place each with a prize of $1,000. No award will be given if the submissions do not meet the standards. The Award will be announced at the POMS 2022 - Thirty-Second Annual Conference, Orlando, FL, USA. The Award includes:
- Public recognition of the award winner(s) at the POMS Annual Conference
- A plaque
- A check for the appropriate amount.
DEFINITION OF EARLY‐CAREER RESEARCHER
An "Early‐Career Researcher" will be defined as someone who has received a doctoral degree (or its equivalent outside of the USA) within the previous six years. For 2022 POMS Annual Conference, 2015 is the starting year for inclusion. Note that previous winners of this Award are not eligible to apply again, but unsuccessful applicants may submit materials in a later year, provided they still meet the career stage requirement. The applicant must be a POMS member of good standing.
PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSIONS
By January 15, 2022, please email copies of the materials listed below to the committee chair, Professor Tinglong Dai (dai@jhu.edu), along with a copy to Sushil Gupta, the Executive Director of POMS via e‐mail at (poms@fiu.edu). The committee chair will acknowledge receipt and distribute copies of the material to the judges. Additions to the portfolio cannot be made after the January 15, 2022 deadline. The portfolio should include:
- A cover letter of no more than two pages applying for the Award that highlights the major contributions of the applicant's entire body of research
- A copy of the candidate's resume
- Copies of one to three key papers
- A maximum of three letters of recommendation for the Award from other academics or area/department chairs describing the applicant's contribution to research, or from practitioners confirming the successful application of research findings.
BASIS FOR THE EARLY‐CAREER RESEARCHER AWARD
Accomplishments can be measured in many ways, with publications and presentations given primary importance. Work published (or formally accepted for publication) or presented at a conference within the six‐year eligibility period will be considered in the evaluation process if properly documented.
The judges will evaluate the impact of the body of work in terms of its ability to broaden, elevate, and shape the way that POM is conceptualized, practiced, and viewed. The judges are not required to give awards if applicants do not meet the standards they establish.
