Job Announcement: Postdoctoral Scholar in Dynamic Modeling of HIV Transmission

Job Description: The research groups of Dr. Maunank Shah and Dr. David Dowdy at Johns Hopkins University are seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to develop and expand a combined economic-epidemiologic model of HIV transmission (Shah et al, Lancet HIV 2016; 3:e140-146). The successful candidate will adapt this model to evaluate questions related to the population level impact of emerging strategies for HIV testing, treatment, and retention in care. There will be opportunities to develop and assist with agent-based network models of HIV and STI transmission, HIV decision analysis, and other projects related to modeling of infectious diseases. Candidates with diverse research interests are encouraged to apply.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, Simulation Science, or a related discipline, though candidates with Master’s degrees or Doctoral degrees in other fields (e.g., medicine, business, economics) with strong quantitative and computing skills will also be considered. Familiarity with HIV transmission modeling is highly desirable, as is coding experience in R, python, or other languages. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and will be responsible for carrying out his/her own research and for communicating the results to others.
The position can be full time or part time (minimum 50%), with commensurate annual salary and benefits (based on years of experience but no less than $50,000 per year for a full-time position). We seek a one-year commitment, with preference given to applicants who are able to start quickly; continuation beyond one year will be based on performance and availability of funds. Due to the timing of funding availability, we can only consider U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or existing visa holders for this position.
