As of March 31, federal agencies have completed seven of the early milestones in the Federal Data Strategy 2020 Action Plan.

    • 57 agencies sent representatives to the inaugural Chief Data Officer Council meeting.
    • OMB launched its Federal Data Policy Committee. The committee's priorities have been set.
    • OMB published a request for information on artificial intelligence.
    • OMB distributed the goals for a framework that will provide structure for a data skills catalog.
    • The Census Bureau, with the Interagency Council on Statistical Policy, piloted a one-stop portal that reduces the burden on researchers requesting access to restricted data assets.
    • GSA demonstrated a metadata management tool pilot and initial feature set to interested agencies.

Three additional milestones are on their way to being complete:

    • 26 agencies published information about their data governance body on their website.
    • GSA demonstrated a new tool for metadata management, data hosting, and API capabilities.
    • 29 agencies published 95,701 datasets.

Achieving milestones builds a solid foundation that will support agencies as they implement the strategy over the next decade. Together, agencies will leverage the full value of federal data for mission, service, and the public good through ethical governance and conscious design.
