    Job Description
            The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications, pending the availability of funding, for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the Department of Business Information and Analytics (BIA) starting fall 2019. The Department of Business Information and Analytics is an academic unit of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver in Colorado. DU is the oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region, with approximately 12,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. DU is classified as a Doctoral/Research University with high research activity. The Department of Business Information and Analytics (BIA) merges the disciplines of Information Technology, Statistics and Operations Management into a department focusing on the key needs of today's organizations to create, manage and understand the wealth of information they possess. The Department of BIA offers graduate programs (a master's in Business Analytics and a Business Analytics Certificate Program) and an undergraduate major in business analytics with minors focusing on business analytics or statistics. Building on a legacy of leadership and first-mover advantage, the Department offers rigorous academic instruction, enjoys strong industry support and has 18 full-time faculty members. The Department is well positioned to be a leader in the developing fields of Business Analytics and Business Intelligence.

    Position Summary
            The Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of BIA is expected to teach six core courses throughout the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and spring quarters, in the areas of Statistics, Predictive Analytics, Data Mining, Quantitative Modeling, Statistical Computing, Data Warehousing <g class="gr_ gr_165 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="165" data-gr-id="165">and</g> Data Visualization. Teaching responsibilities may include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve day, night and weekend classes. Maintenance of AACSB academic qualifications (Scholarly Academic) is required.
            
            Faculty members are expected to participate in Department and College faculty meetings, curriculum development, assurance of learning, and the advising of students. Faculty should be able to state past or proposed activities that promote diversity and equal opportunity (examples include, but are not limited to, developing strategies for the educational or professional advancement of students in underrepresented groups or activities such as recruitment, retention, and mentoring/advising of underrepresented students or new faculty.)

    Essential Functions
            The University of Denver follows the quarter system, where classes meet for 10 weeks during the fall, winter and spring quarters. Assistant Professors are guaranteed summer research support for two years.  Faculty members are expected to participate in school and college faculty meetings and in <g class="gr_ gr_172 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="172" data-gr-id="172">assurance</g> of learning. An Associate Professor is expected to engage in more significant service activities. Working effectively and collegially with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and/or community members is an integral part of the job responsibility. Tenure may be considered at the time of hire for candidates with established success in research and teaching. All candidates must demonstrate the ability and show promise for a continuing career conducting research publishable in leading scholarly journals.
            
            Research: The individual who fills this position will demonstrate the potential to publish articles in high-quality journals (e.g. Financial Times Top 50 Journals or other A-level journals in at least one of the following areas: statistics, business analytics, decision sciences and/or information technology. Experience with research grant writing and the ability to present to scholarly and practitioner-related audiences is a plus. The successful candidate will focus on conducting primarily discipline-based research and focus on publishing in BIA's target journals.
            
            Teaching:
            The Assistant or Associate Professor will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. The usual teaching load for tenured/<g class="gr_ gr_136 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="136" data-gr-id="136">tenure track</g> faculty members is six (four credit hour) courses. Courses taught may include areas of Database (Traditional and Non-traditional), Programming languages, Data Warehousing <g class="gr_ gr_135 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="135" data-gr-id="135">andData</g> Visualization, Statistics, Predictive Analytics, Data Mining, Quantitative Modeling, and Statistical Computing.
            Summer research support and <g class="gr_ gr_167 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="167" data-gr-id="167">two course</g> releases for research activity are granted for two years to an Assistant Professor. Course releases and stipends/summer support for research activity beyond the first two years as an Assistant Professor <g class="gr_ gr_166 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace" id="166" data-gr-id="166">are</g> subject to a competitive peer review process open to all faculty members. An Associate Professor may receive a course release(s) for research activity. Summer teaching is optional and is subject to negotiation with the Chair of the Department.  It is compensated separately.
            
            Service: The individual who fills this position will be expected to participate in the academic life of the Department of Business Information and Analytics and Daniels College faculty meetings, assurance of learning, curriculum development, and the advising of students. A good deal of involvement with students is expected of all faculty members in the Department of Business Information and Analytics.  Beyond the academic life of the College, the Assistant Professor will typically engage in limited service activities unless they tie specifically to one's research agenda.


    The Associate Professor is expected to provide substantial service support and service to the academic, business and/or professional communities.
            
            Required Qualifications
            Tenure Track Assistant:
            Doctorate in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Statistics, Operations Management, Operations Research or related field.
            ABD will be <g class="gr_ gr_150 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-del replaceWithoutSep" id="150" data-gr-id="150">considered,</g> but must be completed no later than March 31 of the first year with Daniels. Candidate will hold the title of <g class="gr_ gr_149 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="149" data-gr-id="149">instructor</g> until completion of the doctoral degree.
            
            <g class="gr_ gr_134 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="134" data-gr-id="134">Tenure Track</g> Associate:

            Evidence of <g class="gr_ gr_158 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="158" data-gr-id="158">excellence</g> research and teaching
            Both Assistant and Associate Professor candidates:
            Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.
            Strong written and verbal communication skills
            Maintenance of appropriate faculty qualifications (Scholarly Academic) under AACSB Standards is required
            Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives to effectively engage diverse populations and learning styles.
            Preferred Qualifications

    Assistant Professor Candidates must demonstrate <g class="gr_ gr_146 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" id="146" data-gr-id="146">potential</g> for excellent research and teaching;
    Associate Professor Candidates will show evidence of <g class="gr_ gr_147 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="147" data-gr-id="147">excellence</g> research and teaching.
    Both Assistant and Associate Professor candidates:
            Active in the business community and the academy (e.g., consulting, presentations, publications in academic business journals and conference proceedings).
            Prior business/industry experience working directly with and applying statistics, information technology, and/or business analytics in an applied business context. Previous experience or demonstrated ability to teach in a traditional setting, online and/or in hybrid courses.
