    The Chair of Mathematics for Business and Economics at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) is looking for a
    Research Assistant (PhD student, 60% employed)
    starting from
    December 1st 2021 or earlier by arrangement.

    The Chair of Mathematics for Business and Economics focuses on the mathematical solution of business problems and methods of operations research. We model and optimize stochastic dynamic systems, in particular via Markov decision processes and approximate dynamic programming. Our applications are in the field of operations management and revenue management in particular. We teach mathematics and optimization at the Bachelor and Master level.

    Responsibilities
    - Developing, managing and publishing research projects within the field of approximate dynamic
    programming or revenue management
    - Assisting in teaching of introductory math or optimization classes
    - Supervision of Bachelor or Master theses

    Qualifications
    - Strong background in mathematics and an excellent Master's degree in (applied) Mathematics,
    Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related, quantitative field of study
    - Basic knowledge of optimization and/or stochastic processes
    - Good knowledge in at least one higher programming language
    - Strong motivation for scientific research and teaching
    - Good organizational and communication skills
    - Reliable team player
    - Advanced English language skills, knowledge of German is helpful but not required
