INFORMS is saddened to share the passing of Leon Lasdon, a longtime member of the INFORMS community, INFORMS Fellow, former chair of the INFORMS Optimization Section, and winner of the INFORMS Impact Prize. Throughout his career at Case Institute of Technology and then the University of Texas at Austin, Professor Lasdon published more than 125 papers on optimization, scheduling, and nonlinear programming. In addition, his first published book, Optimization Theory for Large Systems, was awarded an honorable mention by the Frederick W. Lanchester Prize Committee for best O.R. publication. He also served as associate editor of two INFORMS journals, Management Science and Operations Research.
