We have a post-doctoral position available at the Systems Hub, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)-Guangzhou (GZ) campus with the academic title of Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF). We welcome applicants with a research focus on Industrial Data Analytics for Smart Manufacturing. Further details are as follows:
Requirement
Applicants with a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Applied Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field are encouraged to apply. The appointees are expected to demonstrate strong potential for playing a key role in developing both theoretical and/or applied thematic area research.
Preferred qualifications
Research experience in one or several of the following areas:
- Process monitoring and control for multistage manufacturing;
- Machine learning or statistical learning methods for functional data analysis or point cloud analysis;
- Stream of variation modeling and control for compliant part assembly.
Remuneration & Conditions of Service
Salary is highly competitive of international standard and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Generous research funds, ample laboratory space, and excellent research equipment and support will be provided. All posts are to be offered by the HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local employment laws and regulations.
Initial appointments will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to 1-3 years commencing immediately. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance, mutual agreement, and funding availability.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a world-renowned international research university. The Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China officially approved the preparatory status of HKUST(GZ) in September 2019. The Guangzhou campus covers 1.13 square kilometers and the first phase of construction is expected to be completed in 2022.
At a steady state, the number of undergraduate and postgraduate students will reach a total of 10,000. The intended areas of focus in the GZ Campus will be thematic and cross-disciplinary in nature, synergistic with HKUST without overlapping academic degrees or structures.
Four Academic Hubs (equivalent to schools) with 16 Thrust Areas (equivalent to departments) are now in place.

As one of the four Academic Hubs at GZ Campus, the Systems Hub hosts a cluster of cross-disciplinary thrust areas in Bioscience & Biomedical Engineering, Intelligent Transportation, Robotics & Autonomous Systems, and Smart Manufacturing. Based on the fundamental research in various technical fields, the Systems Hub will facilitate the integration of multidisciplinary technologies and explore their applications.

The Guangzhou/Shenzhen bay area is one of the world's most important technology hubs with great potential for collaboration with the local industry and commercialization of translational technology.
