Ripple Effects in Supply Chains at different Pandemic Stages: How Simulation and Optimization Can Help Predicting the Impacts of and Recovering from the COVID-19 Pandemic: The COVID-19 pandemic unveils unforeseen and unprecedented fragilities of the supply chains (SC). One strong stressor to SCs and their collapses comes from disruption propagations, i.e., the ripple effect through the networks. The existing OR knowledge in modelling disruption propagations in SCs is multi-faceted and reviewed in this webinar. Some recent simulations will be presented, too. We focus on outcomes in both managerial and theoretical domains structured into five stages (i.e., Anticipation; Early detection; Containment; Control and Mitigation; and Elimination) following the WHO classification. Our webinar can be of interest for industry and researchers alike when guiding the SCs amid the COVID-19 pandemic and recovering them thereafter. Suggestions for future research directions are offered and discussed.

Speaker: Dmitry Ivanov, Dr. Dr. Habil.

Dr. Dmitry Ivanov is full professor of supply chain and operations management and deputy director of Institute for Logistics (IfL) at Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR Berlin). His educational, academic and industry backgrounds include supply chain management, operations research, and industrial engineering. His main research interests and results span the ripple effect control in supply chains, supply chain structural dynamics, scheduling problems in Industry 4.0, and digital supply chain twins.

His research record includes around 330 publications, with 87 papers in prestigious academic journals and the leading books "Global Supply Chain and Operations Management", "Structural Dynamics and Resilience in Supply Chain Risk Management" and "Handbook of Ripple Effects in the Supply Chain". He is a winner of several research excellence awards. He is Editor of International Journal of Integrated Supply Management, an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Production Research and International Journal of Systems Science, and Guest Editor in many prestigious international journals.

He is leading working groups, tracks and sessions on the Digital Supply Chain, Supply Chain Risk Management and Resilience in global research communities. He is Chairman of IFAC TC 5.2 "Manufacturing Modelling for Management and Control" and has been General Conference Chair of 9th IFAC MIM 2019 conference (750 participants) as well as IPC and advisory board member of over 50 international conferences.
