The School of Mathematics of the University of Edinburgh wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Operational Research (equivalent to Assistant Professor) to start on 1 June 2022 or later by agreement. Applicants with significant experience and a suitably strong record of achievement may be appointed to a Readership (equivalent to Associate Professor).
The Optimization and Operational Research Group in the School is an international leader in the mathematical and computing aspects of optimization and operational research as well as contemporary industrial applications of optimization. We have world-leading expertise in the solution of large sparse linear and quadratic problems by two of the core technologies in optimization - the simplex method and interior point methods. We also have a strong and growing presence in the mathematics of energy systems. Further interests include nonlinear and global optimization, discrete optimization, decomposition methods, parallel computing, stochastic optimization, simulation and stochastic areas of operational research.
We are looking for ambitious researchers to enhance or complement these strengths, who are self-starting, and have a keen interest in operational research as part of the scientific process of figuring out how the modern world works. We are seeking candidates with a track record of high-quality research in areas relating to modern applications of Operational Research. We are particularly interested in applicants with the ability to contribute to the research and teaching in energy applications of OR, but strong potential in other areas such as healthcare, transportation, risk, public and service sectors may be given serious consideration. Links to industry or commerce and/or demonstrated ability to engage with industry and multidisciplinary partners are desirable.
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Miguel Anjos: Miguel.F.Anjos@ed.ac.uk
The deadline for applications is 28/01/2022, 17:00 UK time.
