    First Call for Participation

NSF-sponsored Workshop: Operations Engineering for Hazard and Disaster Mitigation
    8 May 2024
    Northeastern University Campus
    Boston, MA

The goal of this workshop is to support the development of competitive proposals for fundamental research at the intersection of operations engineering (OE) and the domain of hazard and disaster mitigation. Workshop participants will hear from current/former National Science Foundation (NSF) program officers about funding opportunities and guidance for proposal development. They will also hear from a range of principal investigators in the OE area who will address opportunities and challenges for undertaking domain-focused research that also yields fundamental theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions. Finally, participants will hear from each other about their own lived experiences.

The workshop is oriented towards researchers in operations engineering (including operations research and related fields, as described here: https://new.nsf.gov/funding/opportunities/operations-engineering-oe) whose work in the hazards area has not previously been supported by NSF. Participants must hold a professorial rank (i.e., Assistant, Associate, Professor) and must meet NSF's qualifications to serve in a leadership role on NSF-supported work. All career levels are encouraged. The workshop organizers will strive to achieve diversity with respect to participant background, methodological approaches, and career goals.  Please note that space is limited.

The workshop will be held at Northeastern University's Boston campus on 8 May 2024. Financial support is available up to maximum of $1500 to offset the costs of domestic travel and local accommodations. International travel cannot be supported.
