    Dear Colleagues,

    The Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications at the assistant professor level to begin in the Fall of 2022. Exceptional candidates at higher ranks will also be considered.

    We welcome candidates who can be world-class leaders in strategic growth areas – in particular, but not limited to, computer engineering or power and energy systems (see www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/engineering/academics/departments/electrical/research).

    The University of Texas at Arlington fosters a strong network in Energy Management and Sustainability. The EE department maintains excellence in research and teaching in power and energy systems, focusing on characterization, control, and optimization, while collaborating with local industry or government. While all areas pertinent to power and energy will be considered, specific strengths may include power electronics, energy storage, energy conversion, or power systems with applications in smart grid, grid integration of renewable energy resources, or electrified transportation fleets.

    For applicants in the computer engineering domain, a hardware-related research focus is preferred, with emphasis on physical design automation, computer architecture, hardware security, emerging computing platforms, or cyber-physical systems.

    We seek individuals who demonstrate exceptional potential for or evidence of leading a high-impact, world-class funded research program training PhD, MS and BSEE students. All candidates must have a strong aptitude for effective teaching in core and specialized areas of our curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty responsibilities include developing and maintaining an internationally recognized research program, effective classroom teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the local and international professional communities. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusive excellence and integrate such practices into teaching, research, and service.

    Faculty in Electrical Engineering are required to:
    • develop and innovate classroom and laboratory instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
    • establish and lead an independent, student-based research group supported by externally acquired financial support accessing federal, state, local and/or industrial funding sources;
    • maintain a strong record of academic output such as reviewed journal articles, presentations in national and international conferences along and/or intellectual property;
    • develop and nurture a collaborative network within the EE department, across UTA campus, other aspirational universities and with local industry; and
    • serve the department, college and their technical community.

    The candidate must have the following attributes by the date of hire:
    • a PhD in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering or a closely related field;
    • demonstrated excellence in research that complements or extends existing research strengths in the Department of Electrical Engineering and the potential to attract external funding;
    • evidence of commitment to or strong potential for commitment to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion for historically underrepresented communities;
    • evidence of excellence in teaching or the potential to perform well at both graduate and undergraduate levels in both the classroom and teaching laboratories; and
    • participation in service to community, academic department, college and university.

    UTA is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action institution. Minorities, women, veterans and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply. Additionally, the University prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of sexual orientation. A criminal background check will be conducted on finalists. The UTA is a tobacco free campus.
