Per Suvrajeet Sen's "Thank You!!" post on Dec 16 in the Optimization Society forum, the INFORMS Publications Committee (Jonathon Bard, Chair) and the INFORMS Board  (Ed Kaplan, President) have approved the establishment of a new journal to be entitled "INFORMS Journal on Optimization".

When can papers first be submitted?  When will accepted papers first be posted electronically?  When will the first issue appear?

If these dates are not known exactly, is there at least some range of possible dates?

Note that these same questions were posted on Dec 16 in the Optimization Society's forum, but no reply has been received other than Suvrajeet posting that he has no further information to share in connection with these questions.

    Hello Mark,

Thank you for your message!  We share your eagerness to get our new INFORMS Journal on Optimization (IJOO) ready to receive submissions.  There's a lot of ground work to do before we reach that point, but I'm happy to share our tentative schedule.

First, we need to identify an Editor-in-Chief.  Following our standard procedures, a Search Committee is being impaneled to identify and recommend the IJOO's founding editor.  Look for an announcement seeking candidate nominations in the coming weeks.  It is our hope to have the Committee's recommendation before the April 2017 Board of Directors Meeting.

Following appointment by the Board of Directors, my team will work with the inaugural editor to set up our submission system to accommodate the department structure and review workflow established by the editor and his/her editorial board.  We're tentatively expecting this part of the process to take 2-3 months, which would give us a ballpark date of mid-July 2017 for first submissions.

Accepted articles that have been typeset and are awaiting publication will be published online as Articles in Advance.  Allowing for a typical review and revision cycle, we could expect to see the first IJOO articles available online in Q2 2018.  The timing of the first printed issue will depend on the quantity and quality of submissions, but conservatively we're estimating Q1 2019.

I'll be next working on an official announcement to share with INFORMS in the February 2017 edition of OR/MS Today.  Stay tuned!

    Best,

    Matt
