  • 1.  Remembering Donald Gaver

    INFORMS is saddened to share the passing of Donald Gaver, a longtime member and Fellow of INFORMS, whose research in applied probability modeling and the field of queueing theory is internationally recognized.

    Gaver served in the United States Navy during World War II, prior to receiving degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Princeton University. He was part of the Navy's Operations Evaluation Group before accepting a position at Westinghouse Research Laboratories. In addition to his time at Westinghouse, Gaver taught courses at Stanford University and the University of California Berkeley. In 1964, Gaver moved to academia full-time at Carnegie-Mellon and eventually settled as Professor of Operations Research at the Naval Postgraduate School. Throughout his career, he published nearly 120 professional papers on a diverse range of applied and theoretical problems.
