  • 1.  INFORMS Professional Colloquium (IPC) Student Nominations Sought

    Nominations are being sought for aspiring graduate students seeking industry positions to attend the IPC. The 2017 INFORMS Conference on Business Analytics & Operations Research will be held in Las Vegas from April 2 - 4. The INFORMS Professional Colloquium is a full-day workshop within the conference that consists of talks, panel discussions, and role play sessions organized by OR leaders and practitioners from diverse industry segments. The colloquium is not only designed to help the participants transition into a successful industry career, but is also an excellent networking opportunity where the students can interact with OR leaders and practitioners.

    We are soliciting nominations for students to participate in the INFORMS Professional Colloquium on Sunday, April 2 2017 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Please consider recommending graduate students (Master's or Ph.D.) from your department interested in attending this colloquium.

    Following are the nomination due dates:

    Participant nomination deadline: Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017.

    Participant notification date: Wednesday, March 8, 2017.

    I secured my first job with a Fortune 50 company (Caterpillar Inc.) after my graduate program at the University of Chicago because I attended the INFORMS Analytics conference in Huntington Beach, CA in 2015 as an IPC nominee. 

    I highly recommend graduate/Ph.D students to attend this conference or spread the word within their respective programs and secure a nomination from their professors or program directors. IPC nominees will get a chance to be a part of a day long event customized specifically for the nominees at the 2017 INFORMS Analytics conference. Nominees will get to engage in enriching conversations, workshops, case studies, presentations, Q&A etc. with some highly accomplished executives from companies that are making OR/Analytics a part of their DNA. 

    This not an ordinary networking event. The intimate environment allows for meaningful interaction of students with leaders in their desired fields.

    This is a fantastic opportunity for graduate/Ph.D students in the OR/IE/Statistics/Analytics fields!

    Thanks to generous sponsors, students attending the IPC will receive financial assistance to attend the event. The amount per student has yet to be determined for this year's event, but those attending last year received approximately $700 each.
