Openness is increasingly relevant – think open science, open innovation, and open source software among other topics. But what practices make communities and workplaces open? And how well do those practices advance innovation, transparency, and other stated goals of openness?

The Interdisciplinary Open Practices Workshop (the IOP Workshop), funded by the US National Science Foundation, will establish the state of knowledge on open work across different fields and build interdisciplinary collaborations to explore unanswered questions.

The IOP Workshop will be held on October 27 & 28, 2023 at the University of Vermont, in Burlington, VT and virtually. Topics will include reproducibility & replication, visibility & attribution, leadership & decision making, efficacy of open practices, datasets that capture varying degrees of openness in social interactions, and others. Five exciting keynotes will cover topics from open research methods to open intelligence and everything in between.

We invite all those who create or consume research to apply to give a short talk (5 or 10 min.) on open practices, a social interaction dataset, or just to attend! We especially encourage applications from early career researchers and members of groups that are underrepresented in academia. We hope this event will generate new research projects on this timely topic.

To apply: visit the IOP Workshop website. We encourage those interested in travel awards to apply by September 11. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Questions can be directed to John Meluso (john.meluso@uvm.edu).

We hope to see you at the IOP Workshop!
