    Dear Colleagues,

I’m pleased to announce the creation of a new INFORMS Connect community called “Ethics in OR & Analytics,” which is open to all members. Our hope is that this will become a place for discussion, where members can post questions and answers, useful resources, and case studies related to ethics in our profession. We invite you to join it. Simply go to the community home page here and click on the blue ‘Join Community’ button. (You have to be signed in to Connect.)

This community is in conjunction with the new INFORMS Ethics Guidelines recently approved by the Board.  These Guidelines were developed by an Ad Hoc committee consisting of Susan Albin, Steve Graves, Paul Messinger, Matt Walls, and me. I’ve attached a copy of the Guidelines to this message, or you can find a copy in the “Ethics in OR & Analytics” Connect library.  Also, copies will also be available at the Annual Meeting in Nashville.

I hope you join the “Ethics in OR & Analytics” Community and participate in this interesting and important topic.

    Dave

This is a good effort, as analyst ethics are critical in the emotion-heavy decision-making process.

How about driving an #EthicalAnalytics hashtag in Twitter to enable people to understand this need?

Indeed a great initiative. Can I recommend everybody who is interesting to check out the work of Gartner Analyst and write Frank Buytendijk, He is highly regarded for his work and his presentations (including his style of presenting). Have had some interesting conversations with him as well on the subject.

    Hi All,
This is fantastic. I am at the Informs conference in Nashville this week, it will be great to connect with some people over coffee this week. I am highly interested in looking at data ethics form local and global perspective. I have spoken to few people in Silicon Valley and it is making its buzz among some executives.

    Best,

I'm not at the conference, but this issue of ethics in collecting, storing, using and analyzing data is indeed a topic of interest.  So much so, that one of my recent books was the Outsourcing Professionals' Guide to Corporate Responsibility, and I've given time to be part of the US TAG on the ISO 26000 Social Responsibility standard.

I think we should propose a social issue of one of our journals on this topic.....Mouwafac, are you up for that?
