    We are pleased to share with you the list of finalists in the 2016 INFORMS Undergraduate O.R. Prize Competition. Winners of first places and honorable mentions will be announced at the Awards Ceremony at the Annual Meeting in Nashville on Sunday November 13th.

    The finalists reflect the strength and diversity of undergraduate O.R. projects, whether applied or theoretical, in the U.S. or abroad, and represent the very best of tomorrow's generation of operations research practitioners. You can learn more about their superb work in two sessions at the annual meeting, on Sunday November 13th in the 8am and 1.30am sessions (SA07  and SC08).

    The finalists are listed in alphabetical order of the first author.

    4. Joy Chang, “Carsharing Fleet Location Design with Mixed Vehicle Types for CO2 Emission Reduction”, University of Michigan, USA. In collaboration with Siqian Shen and Ming Xu.
    5. Hale Erkan, “Collaborative Decision Making for Air Traffic Management”, Bilkent University, Turkey. In collaboration with Nesim K. Erkip and Ozge Safak.
    6. Sameer Manchanda and Mikaela Meyer, “On Comprehensive Mass Spectrometry Data Analysis for Quality Assessment of Biological Samples”, Purdue University, USA. In collaboration with Nan Kong, Qianqian Li and Yan Li.
    7. Jacob Monroe, “Allocating Countermeasures to Defend Water Distribution Systems Against Terrorist Attack”, North Carolina State University, USA. In collaboration with Emily Berglund and Elizabeth Ramsey.

    The committee would also like to thank all entrants to this year's competition as well as their faculty advisors for the opportunity to read their work and learn about the insightful and innovative ways they have successfully applied operations research techniques. They have much to be proud of.

    As the 2016 committee chair, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow committee members for their tireless efforts in evaluating and discussing the papers submitted to this year's competition: Dr. Matthew Drake, Dr. Nelson Uhan, Dr. Allison Chang and Dr. Murat Kurt.
