  • 1.  Annual Meeting Combined Colloquia Experience

I am pleased to be on the chair of the 2016 Annual Meeting Combined Colloquia. This is an excellent opportunity for students, new and seasoned professors, and academia professionals to access technical material, career experiences from senior and junior OR/MS professionals, and an environment for networking. I would like to take this opportunity to ask past attendees of the colloquia to provide their feedback of the event.

Was it useful? Would you recommend this event to others in the field?

At the Doctoral Colloquium I had the opportunity to learn from experienced academics and practitioners about how to navigate the end of my Ph.D. studies and the beginning of my professional career. Moreover, at the event I could connect with students from different institutions, who were at the same stage in their studies as I was, faced similar decisions about future directions, and who might one day become my colleagues.

I would like to add that the Minority Issues Forum (MIF) will sponsor one student member to attend the Doctoral Student Colloquium. Interested students are encouraged to apply. Faculty who know a student that might be interested, please feel free to send nominations.

The award includes registration to the 2016 INFORMS Annual Meeting, the Doctoral Student Colloquium, a one-year membership to MIF, and up to $500 in travel reimbursement. To be considered, please include the following additional items in the nomination package and indicate whether the student is interested in the MIF travel award: A brief paragraph from the nominee describing their interest and past efforts in supporting minorities in OR/MS (50-150 words). All applicants must be U.S. citizens and a minority.
