Doctoral students face a number of challenges as they work to attain their degree, but the most important decision is whether to pursue a career in academia or practice. The 2016 Doctoral Student Colloquium is intended for doctoral students who need guidance choosing their future path. Sessions will focus on examining career options and comparing/choosing between the two. It will also address topics like navigating the job hunt, dealing with work-life balance issues, and suggestions concerning how to start preparing and positioning oneself for the job market. This colloquium has been organized with current doctoral students 2-3 years from graduation in mind; however, nominations will be accepted for students in their final year of a doctoral program as well.

This colloquium is one of three offered by INFORMS; others include the Teaching Effectiveness Colloquium and New Faculty Colloquium. All will be held in Nashville, TN on Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12, prior to the INFORMS Annual Meeting. The colloquia will begin on Friday evening with a welcome dinner for all participants and will continue all day Saturday with informative sessions, good food, and plenty of time to socialize and network. All colloquia participants must also register for the INFORMS Annual Meeting. The cost is $80 for students, $200 for all others.

The deadline is fast approaching! All nomination packages must be received by August 30, so please respond today! For complete nomination requirements and to make your submission, click here. NOTE: Applications MUST be sent by a PhD-granting programs in operations research, management science and related fields, NOT by individual applicants.

Matt Bailey is serving as 2016 Chair of the Combined Colloquia committee. The chairs of the individual colloquia are Mihai Banciu (TEC), Burcu B. Keskin (DSC), and co-chairs Barrett Thomas and Auriele Thiele (NFC).

We look forward to seeing you in Nashville!
