    Dear Colleagues:

Please forgive me to sending you this reminder.  First of all, I thank those of you who have already convinced your Dean to support  M&SOM to be included on the FT list.   For those who are still considering, I would like to urge you to do so before the deadline (June 15).   Right now, FT has only 2.x  OM research journals on the list (see below), and we need more journals on the list so that our OM research community can thrive.

Thank you for your consideration.   Chris Tang.

    ==========

    Dear Colleauges:

I write to inform you that, on May 17, 2016, Financial Times (FT) has launched a review of the 45 journals used in its research rank. FT is planning to replace 5 (of the following 10) journals with 5 new journals.

Under Review (five may be eliminated)

    Academy of Management Perspectives

     Academy of Management Review

     Administrative Science Quarterly

     California Management Review

     Econometrica

     Harvard Business Review

     Journal of Political Economy

Journal of the American Statistical Association

     Quarterly Journal of Economics

     RAND Journal of Economics

Given FT reviews its 45 journals every 5 years, this is an important moment for our OM community to urge FT to consider adding theManufacturing & Service Operations Management Journal (M&SOM) to its journal list.  As you all know, M&SOM is an INFORMS journal focusing on OM issues (akin to Marketing Science for Marketing, Organizational Science for OB, Information System Research for IS, etc.)  If you examine the list above, it suggests that FT is interested in including more journals in certain disciplines. For other disciplines such as Finance and Marketing, FT has at least 5 journals on the list, but FT has only 2+ OM journals on the list:  MS (which is multi-disciplinary), POM and JOM.  Clearly, our OM community needs more journals on the FT list and the time is now!

I have contacted FT and they have asked the deans/MBA deans from all 500+ business schools to “vote” on which journal to be eliminated and which new one to be included.  The decision will be purely based on the number of votes received from all 500+ schools.   Given this situation and given I am a “one man band”, I can only have enough time to contact the deans of the FT 100 schools this week.  However, I am running out of time to contact the remaining 400+ schools.  This is the reason why I write to ask for your help now:  please urge your Dean/MBA Dean to vote for the inclusion of M&SOM on the FT journal list.

While M&SOM is a preferred outlet for Operations Management research articles (See figure below for the author profile between M&SOM and Management Science -- according to FT business school ranking in 2013), our OM research community cannot flourish unless we have more OM journals on the FT list so that we can encourage more OM researchers will work on innovative and relevant research and more publications that can support their appointments and promotions.

Even if you have not published in M&SOM in the past, please help me to build the case for M&SOM’s inclusion in the Financial Times journal list so that our OM research community can continue to thrive.  For the OM and the INFORMS at large communities and for our colleagues, I urge you for your help as the current Editor of M&SOM and as a friend.

Please help me to urge your Dean to support the inclusion of M&SOM as one of the FT 45 journals by sending his/her vote to Laurent (FT Business Education Statistician) via email at mba@ft.com  no later than Friday, June 15, 2016.

Time is of essence, please help me now.

Thank you for your kind consideration
