    Symposium on the Sharing Economy

    May 16-17, 2016

    University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota

The two-day symposium will bring together leaders from academia, industry, and government to shed light on the emerging area of the sharing economy and stimulate interdisciplinary research and collaboration. The symposium consists of a workshop (http://sharingeconomy.umn.edu/events/symposium/2016/workshop/) bringing together researchers with backgrounds in economics, operations, information systems, transportation science, industrial ecology, and public policy, and a public forum (http://sharingeconomy.umn.edu/events/symposium/2016/forum/program/index.html) with participation from industry, government agencies, and non-profit organizations.

The symposium will feature a mixed format of plenary speakers, panel discussions, poster sessions, and breakout discussions. The symposium aims to:

    • Create greater awareness of issues surrounding the sharing (and the on-demand) economy and its implications for the economy, society, and the environment.
    • Support the development of a research community that draws from different disciplines around these issues and to articulate a research agenda for the community.
    • Encourage collaborations between academic researchers, government agencies, non-government organizations, and industry

If you are interested in attending the symposium, please register by April 15 (space is limited). If you are interested in presenting a poster in the poster session, please contact the symposium chair. Proposals for posters will be reviewed for fit and contribution by the program committee.

The symposium is chaired by Saif Benjaafar at the University of Minnesota, organized by the Initiative on the Sharing Economy, and sponsored by the Center for Transportation Studies and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Minnesota.
