    GENERAL INFORMATION: The University of Missouri (MU) Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (IMSE) has received a grant from the US Department of Education under the Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program to fund talented doctoral students who anticipate a career in academia.  Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

     

    Students accepted into the MU IMSE Department as GAANN fellows will be funded for up to five years as long as they remain in good academic standing.  All GAANN fellows will receive a stipend of up to $34,000 per year - based on financial need as determined by FAFSA application - for up to three years, funded by the GAANN grant; the MU IMSE department will provide funding for years four and five of each GAANN fellows' doctoral studies.

     

    GAANN Fellows may select any research focus and dissertation advisor from within the IMSE faculty.  Each GAANN fellow will also be assigned to a faculty mentor. GAANN fellows will be required to participate in MU's Preparing

    Future Faculty (PFF) program, a one-credit two-semester commitment, and also will be encouraged to consider a minor in college teaching.  All GAANN Fellows will undergo a teaching practicum, serving for one semester as a teaching assistant for a required undergraduate course, and then assuming primary teaching responsibilities with oversight from the IMSE faculty.
