    POMS College of Sustainable Operations Mini-Conference

    We hope you will join us for the 8th Annual POMS College of Sustainable Operations Mini-Conference, to be held this year in Orlando, FL on May 5th, the day before the POMS Annual Meeting.

    This year the mini-conference will consist of three sessions related to research and industry practices in Sustainable Operations:

    (1) Industry speakers and panel

    a. Jay Brown, Interface (VP of Operations)

    b. TBD

    (2) New tools for research in Sustainable OM

    a. Yanchong Zheng, MIT Sloan

    Title: Using controlled experiments to examine Sustainable OM topics

    Overview: We will share research experiences and tips on how to design and implement controlled experiments to study environmental and social responsibility issues in operations management.

    b. Guangzhi Shang, Florida State University

    Title: A starter's guide to web crawling with R

    Overview: Web crawling enables online secondary data collection at a large scale. This tutorial discusses the basics of web-crawling, its implementation in R, and the data cleaning benefit of integrating crawling into the regular R workflow.

    (3) Research sketches by Sustainable OM student paper competition finalist.

    The mini-conference will start at 1pm to allow participants to fly-in that morning, and it will end by 6pm. Snacks and refreshments will be served during the mini-conference; appetizers and drinks will be served after the mini-conference.
