    Dear Friends:  With the support of the M&SOM editorial board, I am grateful to Jérémie Gallien (London Business School) for chairing an exciting competition that is intended to encourage practice-based research.  Below is the announcement.  Thank you for your support.  Sincerely, Chris.

    ============================

    The First M&SOM Practice-Based Research Competition (2016-2017)

    The M&SOM journal invites submissions of unpublished papers to the first M&SOM Practice-Based Research Competition.   This bi-annual competition was established as a way to incentivize OM research papers reporting work with a high potential or realized impact on practice.  At the same time, it will enable M&SOM to publish more papers with high practical relevance.

    Scope and Admissibility

    Entries must be submitted through manuscript central by September 1, 2016 (please select “Practice-Based Research Competition” for the manuscript type) and include:

    • An unpublished paper complying with all existing M&SOM journal requirements;
    • Additional evidence of potential or realized practical impact, including at a minimum one (possibly confidential) supporting letter by a practitioner;
    • A commitment by authors to attempt any requested revision work in good faith and publish their submitted papers in the M&SOM journal if invited to do so. This may be stated in a cover letter signed by all paper co-authors.

    Work not implemented yet may be considered, as long as potential benefits to practice can be ascertained with a high level of confidence.

    Process

    The finalists and the winner(s) will be selected after two review cycles. The first review cycle will be conducted by an Academic Competition Committee composed of Journal Editorial Board members and will result in the selection of finalists, possibly after a revision round. The second review cycle will involve a Judge Panel composed of high-profile practitioners which will select prize winner(s) on the basis of the material submitted and an oral presentation by finalists organized at the 2017 MSOM Conference in UNC Chapel Hill. All finalist papers will be published in the M&SOM journal, possibly subject to minor revisions.
