    The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Operations Research (OR) specializing in the area of Defense OR. The area of Defense OR includes (but not limited to) combat modeling, analysis and optimization of defense systems, data science related to intelligence, modeling of counterterror operations, and homeland security. Although previous experience in this area is not a requirement, a successful candidate is expected to teach and develop a research program in this area.


    The Department of Operations Research (OR) at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, is the oldest and one of the largest OR departments in the nation. Our students are primarily military officers seeking Master’s degrees in defense-oriented OR topics. We also have a small Ph.D. program. Our students are capable, mature, and hard working. The department has 47 faculty members, with 18 tenure track professors, who do research in defense-related stochastic modeling, data analysis, optimization and simulation. Our research addresses important and challenging problems in national security and we foster close collaborations with US Navy and Department of Defense sponsors, as well as other universities.     Minimum qualifications:
    • Have a Ph.D. in Operations Research or a related discipline.
    • Be a U.S. citizen or committed to obtain citizenship when eligible.
