    -------------------------------------------

The Junior Faculty Interest Group (JFIG) Forum invites submissions to the JFIG paper competition. JFIG was created in 2001 to promote the career development of tenure-track faculty in INFORMS. The goals of the paper competition are to encourage research among junior faculty and to increase the visibility of research conducted by junior faculty within the fields of operations research and management science. The JFIG award committee will judge the submissions and select up to six finalists. The papers submitted for the competition will be evaluated based on the importance of the topic, appropriateness of the research approach, and the significance of research contribution.

For the 2015 competition, first place carries a cash award of $500, second place $250, third place $150, and the remaining finalists $100 each. Winners will be announced at the INFORMS annual meeting, where all finalists will present their research at a JFIG sponsored session. The first, second, and third place winners will be invited to submit their papers (if not already under review or published) to Operations Research for an expedited review that extends the review process undertaken during the competition.

    The conditions for eligibility are:

    1. Authors
      • No author may have received his or her PhD prior to January 1, 2009.
      • No author may have earned tenure (or an appointment without limitation of term) by the date of the 2015 INFORMS National Meeting. Authors may be industry professionals, students, post-docs, etc.
      • The lead author of the paper must be a junior faculty member, or a junior faculty member’s graduate student.
      • All individuals contributing to a submitted paper must be listed as co-authors on the paper.
    2. Entrants
      • An entrant is defined as a co-author who is (a) in a tenure-track position on or after January 1, 2015, and (b) is a JFIG member.
      • Every submitted paper must have at least one entrant.
      • Each entrant can appear as an author/co-author on at most one paper in the competition.
      • Only entrants will be formally recognized with a JFIG competition prize.
    3. Papers
      • The submitted paper must present original research results. It may be a working paper or under review, but must not have appeared (in print) during 2014 or before.
      • The paper must not have won a first, second, or third place award in a previous competition or been a finalist in a previous JFIG paper competition.
      • A submitted paper may simultaneously be considered for other competitions. However, the authors must inform the prize committee of all other paper competitions for which the submission is being considered. In the event that this submission becomes a finalist for another competition, the prize committee reserves the right to remove the submission from the JFIG paper competition.

Application Process: All submissions should be made electronically (as PDF files) at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=jfig2015. The submission deadline for the 2015 JFIG Paper Competition is July 1, 2015, at midnight (Pacific Daylight Time). A complete entry includes two parts:

    1. A main document (uploaded to the EasyChair website) containing:
      • Separate title page with an abstract.
      • The paper (12 point font, 1.5 spaced, one inch margins, 30 pages or fewer including tables and figures but excluding references). No appendices are allowed. Authors’ names and other identifying information should not be included in the main document. Length and format guidelines will be strictly enforced.
    2. An email to asoov@ufl.edu and ayenipazarli@georgiasouthern.edu containing the following information. (This email will allow the committee to confirm submission via EasyChair and alert authors to any potential problems.)
      • Title of the paper.
      • Names of all co-authors on the paper, and which author(s) are entrant(s) (as defined above).
      • For each co-author having earned a PhD (or equivalent degree), the date that the PhD was conferred.
      • A confirmation statement that all eligibility requirements have been met.
