A postdoctoral position in the area of modeling and analysis of the electrical grid is available in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. The initial one-year appointment will begin July 1, 2015 (or later date), and it may be extended contingent upon research performance for another year.

The position is part of a larger research program at Clemson seeking to enhance penetration of renewable energy resources in the U.S. electrical grid and to improve the overall efficiency of the grid. The postdoctoral fellow will be working with Dr. Sandra Eksioglu and Dr. Scott Mason in developing models and algorithms for analyzing these large-scale, complex systems under uncertainty. This research should culminate in journal publications and/or teaching case studies. Applicants with background in the following related areas are also encouraged to apply:

      * Electricity generation by both renewable and non-renewable means

      * Electricity transmission, storage, and distribution

      * Energy efficiency for buildings, manufacturing and commerce, and personal use

      * All aspects of transportation, including the production and distribution of both renewable and non-   renewable fuels, electrification, and energy efficiency in transportation

The successful applicant will have domain expertise in energy-related field(s) and applications, coupled with a strong academic record and demonstrated scholarship. Other responsibilities may also include  participating in grant writing, and co-supervising undergraduate and graduate students on research.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in industrial or systems engineering, operations research, electrical engineering, or other-related fields before the appointment begins. In addition, applicants should have experience with using quantitative or analytical approaches to solve energy-related problems. Strong written and oral communication skills are a must. A strong technical background is expected, and successful applicants will also exhibit leadership or organizational strengths.

Please send a complete application package in a single PDF document containing 1) a cover letter, 2) a complete CV, 3) a maximum 2-page statement of you research interests, and 4) the names and full contact details for three professional references to gridpostdoc@clemson.edu. Applications received by May 15, 2015 are guaranteed full consideration; however, applications will continue to be received until the position is filled.
