Abstract:
We have already witnessed the AI Brain Revolution in the form of chatGPT: taking the world by surprise, this was the fastest-adopted technology in recorded history, and has radically transformed a wide swath of the business world. While society is still reeling from this, the AI Body Revolution is forthcoming (again probably much sooner than we expect): this will of course fuse the AI brains (via LLMs or the like) into a physical body becoming what we have traditionally called a 'robot', and societal impact will be profound and unstoppable. We would of course like to preserve our safety and humanity in the midst of all this rapid AI-powered technological change, and my thesis is in fact that this is precisely the prerequisite for continued progress. For safety we are finding that trustworthiness backed by explainability and guardrails to keep AI in line are of paramount importance, while retaining our humanity requires identifying uniquely human avenues of industry and communication. I will show some practical solutions the audience can already employ for present applications, and remark on future possibilities.

Speaker Bio:
Nicholas Kersting took his Ph.D. in Physics (UC Berkeley) to a professorship in academia before deciding to chase the development of AI in industry for the last 15 years first at Princeton Consultants, then in enterprise positions at IBM, Alibaba, Visa, and others. His side pursuit as founder of Iron Action AI focuses specifically on the imminent reckoning between AI and Humanity in Social Safety.
