Dr. Cliff Ragsdale is the Bank of America Professor in the Department of Business Information Technology and also serves as Academic Director of the Center for Business Intelligence and Analytics in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. He is an internationally recognized scholar and thought-leader in the use of spreadsheets for modeling, analyzing, and supporting business decisions. He is author the best-selling textbook Spreadsheet Modeling and Decision Analysis, now in its 8th edition and in use around the world.
Cliff has served as a consultant to a variety of organizations including: The World Bank, Darden Restaurants, Dominion Energy, Frontline Systems, Rockwell Automation, Advance Auto Parts, and many other organizations. He has also served as an expert witness in the area of spreadsheet forensics. Dr. Ragsdale and his colleagues have developed a variety of spreadsheet-based decision support tools for a diverse collection of problems including: asset optimization for natural gas trading operations, real-time support for power generator dispatching decisions, multi-criteria decision support for territory/district realignment problems, and the optimization of production, inspection, and delivery scheduling operations.
Cliff is a popular teacher/trainer and has received the Pamplin award for excellence in teaching from the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech. He also teaches continuing education courses for Statistics.com.
Cliff’s primary areas of research interest center of the use of analytics to solve business problems. He has published more than 50 research articles and serves on the advisory boards of several academic journals.
He is a Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI) and is an active member of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).
