The European Train Control System (ETCS) is the signaling and control component of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). With the upcoming implementation of ETCS level 3 the utilization of the railway network, the reliability, and the flexibility of the timetables will be improved. To exploit the full potential of moving block, we developed the moving block timetable optimizer raillation in collaboration with DB Netz AG and the Zuse Institute Berlin. We will discuss modeling challenges and algorithmic ingredients to speed up the mathematical optimization. We demonstrate how to connect raillation with Viriato by SMA using its Algorithm Platform.
