The Department of Energy Resources at the University of Stavanger, Norway invites applications for a postdoc position in the decision and data analytics area starting early 2020. We seek candidates with a rigorous research program that focuses on the development or the innovative use of methodologies that are driven by decision and data and motivated by challenges in business. These research areas could include optimization and decision making under risk and uncertainty. A candidate's research may draw from one of a variety of research disciplines, including operations research, operations management, computer science, machine learning, energy resources, stochastic modeling, or other related fields.
Qualifications
We seek candidates in decision sciences with a strong commitment to high quality research and who can contribute to our program in Decision and Data Analytics. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or expect to complete their degree before end of 2019.
The main objective of this project is to study the impact of uncertainty about the benefits of a technology on adoption and information gathering decisions. A decision and data analytical framework for the purpose of generating decision supporting information for IOR projects with a particular focus on the IOR pilot project decisions will be developed, evaluated and tested. A core element of the project is learning-by-doing (sequential learning) approaches leveraging Bayes' theorem and dynamic programming to identify and value optimal information gathering sequences, given realistic constraints, for IOR pilot projects.
