I am recruiting PhD students in operations research for Fall 2019, on applications of decision-making under high uncertainty, with a focus on robust and adaptive binary optimization. The Engineering Management, Information and Systems department in the Lyle College of Engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX offers an exceptional learning environment with faculty in operations research and management science from Top 10 schools in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country, home to many headquarters or regional offices of Fortune 500 companies and other industry powerhouses such as American Airlines, Southwest, AT&T, Texas Instruments, Capital One, BCG, McKinsey and more.

SMU is ranked #59 in the US News rankings for Best Universities (#31 for Veterans) and recently completed a $1 billion capital campaign. It is uniquely situated in the prosperous area of Highland Park/University Park, one of the best places to live in the country. The EMIS department is located in a state-of-the-art building opened in 2010 with outstanding distance classrooms and research facilities, and benefits from SMU's investments in high-performance computing through the Center for Scientific Computation. SMU EMIS doctoral students hold undergraduate or Master's degrees from top institutions in their home countries, such as Sharif University of Technology and the University of Tehran. SMU faculty have been elected to the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and received NSF CAREER awards, Guggenheim fellowships, and many other honors.

The Dallas area offers plenty of industry research opportunities, internships and job opportunities in analytics and data science, a core strategic area of SMU. It also offers a highly cosmopolitan population, 2 major airlines hubs that put any major U.S. city within a 3 ½ hour direct flight and plenty of world-class cultural and entertainment opportunities.

    • MS degree or BS degree with honors thesis from top institution and undergraduate GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0
