Colorado State University and the U.S. Geological Survey are seeking candidate for a post-doctoral fellowship to work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists to explore the use of modern data analysis and machine learning approaches to modeling energy development potential with the context of underlying geology.  Further description is below and at the link.

Completed PhD in ecology, geology, conservation, geography or related discipline and experience in spatial analysis, machine-learning, and other statistical analyses is required.

Post Doctoral Fellow in SMART Energy Development

Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL) at Colorado State University (CSU) invites applications for a postdoctoral research position. We seek an early career scientist to utilize machine learning approaches to model energy development potential geospatially across energy rich locations in the Western US. The fellow will develop new models to better understand future energy resource development potential in the sagebrush rangelands using spatio-temporal patterns in geologic characteristics, production data, existing well locations, and other geospatial characteristics. This research will utilize the world's largest database of energy infrastructure, a rich array of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) oil and natural gas assessments and their underlying data, and other geospatial and tabular information. The research will assist with planning energy development that minimizes impacts while allowing resource extraction.
