The Mathematics of Operations Research journal welcomes foundational articles having significant mathematical content and relevance to operations research and management science.  The journal includes the following 5 areas: Continuous Optimization, Discrete Optimization, Game Theory, Learning Theory and Stochastic Models. The editorial board would like to share the updated editorial statement below.

Mathematics of Operations Research is an international journal of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS). The journal publishes excellent foundational articles having significant mathematical content and relevance to operations research and management science. The journal invites articles concerned with the mathematical and computational foundations in the areas of continuous, discrete and stochastic optimization, mathematical programming, dynamic programming, stochastic processes, stochastic models, simulation methodology, control and adaptation, networks, game theory, decision theory. Also sought are contributions to learning theory and machine learning that have special relevance to decision making, operations research and management science. The emphasis is on originality, quality, and importance; correctness alone is not sufficient. Significant developments in operations research and management science not having substantial mathematical interest should be directed to other journals such as Management Science or Operations Research.

Mathematics of Operations Research is open to considering submissions that have been published in conference proceedings, provided that they fit within the journal's overall scope and quality, and that have substantial mathematical content. The article has to either retain the same title as the conference version, or, when a different title is justified, has to clearly point to the conference version on the title page.  In either case, the authors must enclose the conference version with their journal submission. They must clearly indicate the differences between the two versions in their cover letter. The merit of the journal version compared to the conference version will be judged by the editorial board on an individual basis. While it is not required that such articles offer significant modifications, improvements and extensions of their conference versions it is highly encouraged.
