Research Fellow/Engineer Positions at the National University of Singapore

Research fellow/engineer positions in the area of Smart Urban Logistics and Warehousing are available at the Centre for Next Generation Logistics (C4NGL), National University of Singapore. The position is available immediately and offered for a one/two-year term.

The research fellow/engineer will be working with a research team and other industry collaborators to further develop and improve Warehouse simulation using the Object-Oriented Discrete Event Simulation platform, in order to create a digital twin of the warehouse. Alternatively, the fellow/engineer shall conduct theoretical research to facilitate the development of the digital twin. Possible research areas are, but not limited to:

    • Providing intelligent solutions for urban transportation related topics
    • Development of sophisticated algorithms to solve complex optimization problems
    • Development of Simulation and Optimization Platform
    • Scheduling and planning of Vehicles or Autonomous vehicles
    • Investigating advanced automation technology (for warehouse, manufacturing, maritime system…etc.)
    • Warehouse Layout design and Capacity analysis
    • Developing Real Time decision supporting toolbox

Our key capability is our O2DES.Net platform, a flexible simulation and modelling platform which is developed in-house, embedded with powerful optimisation algorithms and techniques to not just faithfully mirror the real-world complex systems, but also facilitates and support decision making at all levels. The team is currently improving the O2DES.Net platform to incorporate and simulated the subsystems in the warehouse environment, and the candidate is expected to play an important role in co-leading the effort.

About The Centre for Next Generation Logistics (C4NGL)

Jointly established by NUS and Georgia Institute of Technology in 2015, the C4NGL offers research expertise in simulation modelling and optimization in logistics and supply chain management systems. C4NGL's role will be to deliver leading-edge systems design, research and developmental capabilities in general business, particularly in logistics and supply chain management or engineering related industries, for Singapore and Asia.

About National University of Singapore (NUS)

Founded in 1905 as a modest medical school with 23 students, NUS is today widely known for our pioneering education and innovative research which have made an impact on the community in Singapore and beyond. We offer a global and Asian approach to education, research and entrepreneurship. The University is especially renowned for our research in engineering, science and technology, biomedical sciences, and the humanities and social sciences.

The ISEM Department has come a long way since its formation in the early 1970s under the sponsorship of the Ford Foundation. Our MSc program (the first in Engineering in Singapore) has been the flagship program of the department for the last 30 years and is still vital and relevant to Singapore's economy. Our BEng (ISE) graduates are much sought after by industries and the program has been accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB).

Moving in tandem with the national thrust in transforming NUS to a leading research-based university, the research program in the ISEM Department has also received world recognition in the area of Quality and Reliability Engineering with its faculty members represented in editorial boards of many international journals in this field. Research in Logistics has been well-funded and is gaining momentum and international visibility.
