    The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY invites applications to fill a newly created full-time Professor of Practice position. The selected individual will be welcomed into the department as a full partner with the twelve current faculty who participate in undergraduate curriculum instruction and development focusing on preparing the industrial and systems engineer of the future. Professors of Practice are non-tenure-track faculty members who have broad experience in the research and practice of their profession in non-academic settings such as industry or government laboratories and can bring this experience to our programs in education and research, and have the ability and desire to teach in a collaborative environment.

    The responsibilities of the position, in addition to engaging students through course instruction in our industrial and systems engineering programs, include developing and procuring industry, government, and not-for-profit sponsored and supported projects for the capstone design course through the O. T. Swanson Multidisciplinary Design Lab; identifying and/or developing full time fall or spring term internships for junior class students completing the Arch semester; and engaging with the faculty in curriculum development and program curriculum redesign.

    Qualifications: We are seeking candidates with expertise that can include, but is not limited to: supply chain management, production systems, project management, and operations management. Demonstrated expertise in using data and computing in relation to these fields is required. The candidate must have strong leadership and communication skills to attract organizations including businesses, not-for-profits and government to sponsor and support experience-based learning for our undergraduate students both on and off the campus. Applicants with a strong professional network will be strongly considered.

    A Ph.D. (or foreign degree equivalent) in an appropriate area is required along with a strong desire and commitment to teaching and student support primarily at the undergraduate level. Preference will be given to candidates with an undergraduate degree in industrial engineering (or a closely related degree).
