    Description

The Gallogly College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in data science and analytics. Candidates should have a strong foundation in both theory and practice (e.g., statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence) to investigate and make sense of large and complex data sets. Candidates should complement and enhance existing college research domains in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, and application domains in energy, aerospace and defense, health, and meteorology. Candidates for this position shall possess an earned doctorate in industrial and systems engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline and shall have demonstrated research potential.

The Data Science and Analytics Institute (DSAI; http://dsa.ou.edu) is a collaboration between the Schools of Computer Science and Industrial and Systems Engineering. The DSAI is now expanding its academic and its industry-sponsored programs. One of the primary responsibilities of this position will be to lead the development of a new undergraduate curriculum for an engineering-based certificate in data science and analytics. The DSAI is supporting a similar position in the Price College of Business and it is expected that the new faculty will work collaboratively to develop cross-disciplinary courses for the colleges' certificates. These undergraduate certificates will complement our well-established graduate programs and our growing industry-sponsored mini-campuses.

    Qualifications

Candidates for this position shall possess an earned doctorate in industrial and systems engineering, computer science, or a closely related discipline and shall have demonstrated research potential. Candidates will be expected to establish and lead an innovative funded research program, supervise graduate students, pursue external funding opportunities, and provide service to the University. Candidates must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be willing to develop modern curricula for this program. Courses will be developed for delivery in face-to-face and online formats.

    Diversity

The University of Oklahoma is committed to achieving a diverse, equitable, and inclusive university community by embracing each person's unique contributions, background and perspectives. The University of Oklahoma recognizes that fostering an inclusive environment for all, with particular attention to the needs of historically marginalized populations, is vital to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of our institutional mission. This enhances the OU experience for all students, faculty and staff and for the communities we engage.

The Gallogly College of Engineering holds strong the values of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). We seek candidates who contribute to fostering an inclusive culture in all aspects of faculty responsibility, including within the classroom, the academic community, and within their professional commitments. Candidates should include in their cover letter a discussion of how they have or intend to promote the college's values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

    Application Instructions

Candidates are invited to submit an application to include a cover letter, addressing how they will contribute to the college's DEI goals, and how they fulfill the qualifications of this position. Applications should also include a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy and research vision, and a list of five references who will be contacted only upon permission of the candidate. Applications may be submitted to https://apply.interfolio.com/70374.
