Dear all,
Here is the invitation for our seventh edition or RAS webinar series. The speaker will be Dr. Andrea D'Ariano, from Roma Tre University, Italy.
Title: "Exploring the potential of alternative graphs to solve railway optimization problems"Speaker: Andrea D'Ariano, Associate Professor, Department of Engineering, Roma Tre University, ItalyTuesday February 23rd, 202110:00 EST NEW YORK16:00 CEST AMSTERDAM22:00 CST BEIJINGAbstractThis talk will discuss the application of job shop scheduling to manage railway operations. Dr. D'Ariano will start with a literature review on various railway simulation and optimization topics that have been successfully addressed with this methodology. He will then briefly describe the flexibility and potential of mathematical models plus advanced scheduling and routing algorithms based on the alternative graph representation with consideration of railway business rules and objectives. He will conclude the talk with an overview on his experience with applying this methodology to solve various European problems from real-time railway traffic management to tactical train timetabling and capacity consumption.BioAndrea D'Ariano received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science and Automation Engineering at Roma Tre University. In November 2003, he joined TRAIL Research School and Department of Transport and Planning, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Delft University of Technology. In April 2008, he successfully concluded his Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Prof. I.A. Hansen. In 2018, he got the Full Professor Italian scientific habilitation in Operations Research. He is currently coordinating the AIRO (Italian Association of Operations Research) Chapter on "Optimization in Public Transport and Shared Mobility". He is also Associate Editor of well-known international journals (e.g. Transportation Research Part B) and conferences (e.g. IEEE ITSC). His main research interest is the study of scheduling and routing problems with application to railway operations research.
