The School of Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invites outstanding candidates to apply to a full-time faculty position in Uncertainty Modeling in Complex Systems at the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
The successful applicant's duties will include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and conducting research in Stochastic Systems, with emphasis on stochastic processes, computer simulation, Markov decision processes, applied statistics, data science, or related topics.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. (or be currently pursuing studies towards the degree) in Operations Research or related areas. We value applicants with experience or potential capabilities in data analytics, willing to lead and collaborate on diverse projects covering different areas within Industrial and Systems Engineering such as service and manufacturing operations, supply chain management, inventory models, healthcare, energy, marketing, or financial engineering, among other related fields. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the School of Engineering, the applicant is expected to work with local and international collaborators.
The skill to conduct high-quality, scholarly research is a hard requirement. In addition, candidates should be qualified to work with academic teams, and lead scientific and industry-liaison initiatives. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration is highly valued as the selected candidate will be expected to interact with other faculty within the Department and School, participate in and develop research projects, and be involved in an active research agenda.
Excellence in teaching is also expected, and selected candidates will be required to create new undergraduate and graduate courses and teach traditional courses in related areas. Successful candidates will be required to teach three semester-long undergraduate or graduate courses per year. Spanish is not required at the time of application but should become the language of teaching before the end of the second year.
In sum, applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence and a strong academic vocation for all aspects of university life, be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, have a genuine interest in getting involved with our graduate programs (specially the doctoral program) and be able to develop and maintain an active research agenda (publications, research grants, etc.).
