    ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING FACULTY POSITION IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

     

    The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for an assistant, associate, or full professor tenure-track/tenured position to be filled by August 2020. The Department is looking for outstanding individuals at the rank of Associate or full Professor with a strong research program in additive manufacturing who can help the department strengthen its teaching and research programs in Advanced Manufacturing. Outstanding applicants at the Assistant Professor level will be considered if sufficient independent research accomplishments can be demonstrated. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field by the time of employment. Applicants are sought in the broad research areas of advanced manufacturing with research specialty in additive manufacturing for military and industrial applications.  Moreover, the successful candidate must support the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Institution and a model for student success.

     

    The successful candidates are expected to build successful, externally-funded research programs in collaboration with other concentration areas within the department and across departments in College of Engineering and College of Science. Applicants must demonstrate a clear vision and plans for original research. The incumbent must be able to (1) develop an externally funded and internationally recognized research program; (2) supervise graduate student research; (3) teach undergraduate and graduate courses related to manufacturing engineering and/or materials; (4) work with others across disciplinary boundaries; (5) show a commitment to inclusiveness and diversity, demonstrate the ability to work with, and be sensitive to, the educational needs of students from a diverse urban population; and (6) serve the department, College of Engineering, and the University.

     

    UTSA is located in San Antonio, Texas, which a vibrant city of more than 1.6 million people, with significant economic growth, numerous industrial military establishments, and fine school districts. The city and the University provide excellent cultural and educational opportunities as well as exceptional employment opportunities. The University has more than 30,000 students and is the third largest within the 9 campuses of the University of Texas System. The ME Department currently has 22 full-time T/TT faculty members (4 endowed chairs), 5 full time lecturers, with enrollment of 1180 undergraduate, 80 M.S., and 45 Ph.D. students. The department's annual research expenditure is over $3 million. The Department offers accredited B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and MS degree in Advanced Manufacturing and Enterprise Engineering. UTSA is committed to student success and growth in student opportunities, as indicated by the addition of $95 million Science and Engineering building to be completed in summer 2020.
