The School of Mathematics of the University of Edinburgh is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Operational Research to deliver a range of consultancy activities to a range of partners, within the University and externally. We are looking for an operational researcher who is ambitious, flexible, conscientious and creative and who can work equally adeptly on academic and private sector questions and challenges. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the modern application of OR to one or more economic sectors such as energy, transportation, logistics, healthcare, finance, risk, public and service sector. Based on current opportunities, much of the first year will likely be spent working on aspects of energy and infrastructure systems.
There are significant opportunities for engagement with the public and private sectors across myriad different areas, such as finance and banking, biomedical sciences, information technology, and local and national government. The role may include the supervision of MSc dissertation projects, especially those involving external partners. The School takes career development seriously. The postholder will have the support of our experienced OR team, as well as other staff working in OR and Statistics consultancy in the School and throughout the University, to develop their analytical and business skills.

The starting salary will be in the range of £33,797 - £40,322 per annum.
