    Congratulations to our winners and runners-up for the 2019 Social Media Analytics Best Student Paper Contest! Thank you to all those who have submitted papers to the 2019 contest. I also wish to thank all the reviewers, judges, and the SMA board members whose insight and feedback was tremendously helpful for running this contest.  Among the submitted papers, the following were judged to be the most significant, relevant, and promising.

    1. First Place ($200 prize award): "Sympathy to the Seemingly Needy: Does Social Influence Alleviate Inequalities in Medical Crowdfunding?", by Yun Young Hur (Georgia Institute of Technology), Fujie Jin (Indiana University), Yuan Cheng (Tsinghua University), Xitong Li (HEC Paris), Yu Jeffrey Hu (Georgia Institute of Technology)
    2. Second Place: "A Twitter-Based Cyber Security Warning and Prioritization System", by Enhao Liu (The Ohio State University) and Theodore T. Allen (The Ohio State University)
    3. Third Place: "The Effect of User Generated Content on Hotel Demand: The Role of Competitive Perception Spillovers", by Sanghoon Cho (University of South Carolina), Pelin Pekgun (University of South Carolina), Ramkumar Janakiraman (University of South Carolina), Jian Wang (RealPage Inc.)

    Although judging for papers in the 2019 SMA Best Student Paper contest has concluded, please consider submitting your papers for our annual SMA Best Student Paper contest in the future.
