    The Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal is seeking candidates for a tenure-track or tenured position in machine learning, statistics, optimization, operational research or financial engineering beginning June 1, 2022. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.  

    The Department of Decision Sciences at HEC Montréal  offers a stimulating environment with 30 professors and 6 full-time lecturers. Department faculty carry out research in Data Science (including machine learning and statistics), Financial Engineering, and Optimization. They are members of internationally recognized research centers such as Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, CIRRELT (Interuniversity Research Centre on Enterprise Networks, Logistics and Transportation), CRM (Centre de Recherches Mathématiques), and GERAD (Group for Research in Decision Analysis). They also contribute to the mission of IVADO  (Institute for Data-driven Value Creation) and benefit from its various funding and transfer opportunities. Depending on their research area, the chosen candidate may be eligible to receive a Canada CIFAR AI Chair in machine learning.

    HEC Montréal is a world-class business school. The School offers undergraduate programs as well as graduate degrees: an MBA, an EMBA, an M. Sc. and a Ph. D. Courses are mainly taught in French but also in English and Spanish. The M. Sc. program offers several specializations including: Data Science and Business Analytics, Business Intelligence, and Financial Engineering. The Ph. D. program is offered jointly with McGill University, Concordia University and UQAM, and includes specializations in Data Science, Financial Engineering, and Management Science.

    Qualifications – Candidates must:

    • Have completed or nearly completed a Ph. D. in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Statistics or Mathematics, or in a field related to decision science. 
    • Have a strong publication record in their field of interest. 
    • Show excellent potential in research, an aptitude to supervise students at the MSc and PhD levels, and a desire to engage in one of our research groups.
    • Show excellent potential in teaching with demonstrated communication skills in either French or in English and a clear interest in becoming competent in both.
