  • 1.  Call for session organization at IFORS 2020

    Posted 05-15-2019 16:35

IFORS 2020 (http://www.ifors2020.kr/) will be the 22nd Conference of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies (http://ifors.org/).  The IFORS 2020, June 21-26, 2020 to be held in Seoul South Korea, would like to invite you to organize stream(s)/session(s).

As the only globally focused Operations Research organization, and with the field booming worldwide, this is a fantastic time to be a part of the IFORS community. We are especially excited to be holding the next IFORS conference in Asia, as OR has been growing tremendously fast in that part of the world. We anticipate a record attendance.

As well as hoping that you will consider coming, I am writing to see if you are willing to organize a Stream (Session) of your choice within the "Simulation, Queueing, Stochastic Programming and Modeling" Area and "Machine Learning, Data Mining and Analytics" area.

A Stream can be as little as 2 Invited Sessions (each planned to be 4 talks each), up to a maximum of 12 Sessions. If you cannot organize a Stream yourself, then please consider the following options.

      * Streams can be co-organized. Is there a co-organizer you could work with to do this?

      * Recommendations: is there anyone you can recommend who may be interested in organizing a Stream in this area? Please feel free both forward this message to them, and reply to me with their name and email address.

      * Chair an Invited Session: if you are willing to chair an Invited Session, please let me know the general topic, and I will try to match you with a Stream.

If you are interested in organizning stream(s)/session(s), please feel free to contact Dr. Eunshin Byon (ebyon@umich.edu) and Dr. Lewis Ntaimo (Ntaimo@tamu.edu). Thank you very much!

Eunshin, I helped design and teach in the MS in Business Analytics at UC Davis. A description of our program is at https://www.informs.org/ORMS-Today/Public-Articles/August-Volume-44-Number-4/The-making-of-an-MSBA-program.

At UC Davis, we have been making good progress in teaching Analytics based on experiential learning. Specifically, I've been working on active learning pedagogies and on preparing students for industry careers through project experience.

Is there planned to be a stream on Analytics program design and/or instructional pedagogies at the Seoul IFORS meeting?
