The Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU) is seeking candidates for the Head and Larry Brown Endowed Professorship of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (www.ise.msstate.edu). The Head is responsible for the overall administration of the department, and this is a 12- month tenured position. The successful candidate must hold an earned doctorate in industrial engineering or a closely related field, must qualify for the rank of professor with tenure, and as such must have earned national recognition by a distinguished record of accomplishments in industrial engineering education and research. A record of scholarly publications in archival literature and funded research is required. Significant teaching experience and some direct industrial experience are expected. Demonstrated success and leadership in obtaining and executing government and industrial research grants and contracts are expected. In addition, a baccalaureate in engineering is desirable.
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is one of eight academic departments in the Bagley College of Engineering. The Department offers a student-focused ABET-accredited undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering, as well as graduate studies leading to M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The Department is composed of 207 undergraduates, 101 graduate students, 12 tenure-track faculty members, one clinical faculty, and four staff members. Research expenditures total approximately $2.3 million dollars annually. Faculty members have developed a strong research program in the areas of ergonomics and human factors, advanced manufacturing and production systems, management systems engineering, and optimization and data informatics. Faculty in the department are active in many university research centers, including the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS), the National Strategic Planning and Analysis Research Center (NSPARC), and the Institute for Systems Engineering Research (ISER), among others.
MSU is a comprehensive land-grant institution with approximately 22,000 students and about 1,300 faculty members. The university's main campus is located in Starkville, Mississippi, a vibrant community approximately two hours from Jackson MS, Birmingham AL, and Memphis TN.
