    Dear colleagues

We would like to invite you to this SDP/DAS Webinar Round Table (Wednesday, January 13 @ 8:00 am PT / 11:00 am ET):

Decision Professionals and Decision Professors: Synergies and Opportunities between Practitioners, Academics and Organizations

Decision Analysts face an increasing number of new problems. Some of these problems require new approaches, either tailored as specific solutions or at the creation of methodologies that apply to a vast class of problems. One key challenge we often face is how to leverage the theoretical vs the practical. The Society of Decision Professionals and the Decision Analysis Society's common strengths and abilities have the potential to create synergies and tailor decision analysis to the new challenges ahead. How can we work together, exploit the best of what each can bring, so that we create maximum impact? This will be the focus of our discussion and we welcome your thoughts and contributions during the registration process as well as during the live webinar in addressing these questions.

Speaker | Leslie Lippard, SDP President, and Senior Director, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals.

By day, Leslie Lippard leads portfolio analytics at Alnylam, a Boston-based Biotech focused on therapeutics based on siRNA technology.  Outside of working hours, Leslie is the current SDP president, and while she used to have a few hobbies (judo, beekeeping), the pandemic has largely put those pursuits on hold. Today, she is excited to be discussing how the SDP and the DAS members can learn from each other, create a larger community, and leverage both our similarities and differences.

Speaker | Emanuele Borgonovo, DAS President, and Professor, Bocconi University, Italy.

Emanuele Borgonovo (PhD, MIT) is Full Professor at the Department of Decision Sciences of Bocconi University in Milan and director of the new Bachelor in Economics, Management and Computer Science. He is the current President of the Decision Analysis Society of INFORMS. He is co-editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Operational Research, and member of the editorial boards of Decision Analysis, Risk Analysis and several other international journals. He is the recipient of national and international awards and has participated in numerous research projects (theoretical and applied) on risk and decision-analysis with companies and institutions worldwide (e.g., DARPA, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, US DOE, US Idaho National Laboratory, etc.). He has published more than 100 scientific papers. His research focuses on the aspects at the interfaces between decision analysis, machine learning and risk analysis.

Moderator | Gilberto Montibeller, Director of Executive Education and Professor of Management Science, Loughborough University, UK.

Gilberto Montibeller is a Professor of Management Science and Director of Executive Education at Loughborough University (England) and a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at the University of Southern California. He is an expert on multi-criteria decision analysis and behavioral decision analysis. Dr. Montibeller has provided decision analysis consultancy to both private and public organizations in the USA, Britain, Continental Europe, and South America.
