    Position Summary

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in applications of artificial intelligence, data science, and augmented reality to the next generation of retail experiences. This position is hosted at the Bensadoun School of Retail Management, in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering at McGill University and the Quebec Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Mila).

The successful candidate will contribute directly to McGill's exciting new Retail Innovation Lab (RIL), whose mission it is to blend multidisciplinary research with cutting-edge technologies as well as to investigate responsible innovation for the future of retail. The lab, which comprises a sensor-tooled within a convenience store open to the public, offers the opportunity to capture real-world data in a uniquely integrated fashion. This enables several research opportunities at the interface of retail and technology that are realizable at the RIL.

    Description

Under the supervision of Professors Maxime Cohen (Management) and Derek Nowrouzezahrai (Engineering/Mila), the candidate will drive the development and real-world deployment of enabling technologies – and supporting empirical studies – to realize frictionless retail experiences. Innovating with the objective of enhancing the overall customer experience will complement efforts aimed at addressing real-world challenges whilst publishing in top-tier academic venues.

We are seeking candidates interested in the intersection of any of the following themes:

    ·         Applied machine learning and reinforcement learning,

    ·         Augmented reality and virtual reality, and

    ·         The interplay of technology, end-to-end systems, data science, and retail.

Potential areas include – but are not limited to – factors that influence product selection, demand prediction, personalized offers and promotions leveraging cognitive modelling, and augmented reality to augment shopping experiences.

    Terms of appointment

This is a full-time research position with possible teaching responsibilities. Salary and benefits are competitive based on qualifications. The salary range is from $34,611 (min) to $80,000 (max) annually. The initial appointment is for 2 years, starting on September 1, 2021.

    Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in operations management, computer science, engineering, data science, machine learning, or related disciplines.

The candidate should have a track record of success in conducting applied and/or theoretical research in data modeling, in the development of algorithms and end-to-end data analytics, and must possess expert knowledge of the associated technical skills and tools.
