Call for Nominations: Editor, INFORMS-Springer Book Series

Deadline for Nominations: June 1, 2021

We are excited to announce a new book series to be jointly administered by INFORMS and Springer. This will provide an avenue for authors to develop and publish work in a co-branded series of publications resulting from workshops, conferences, courses, schools, seminars, prize-winning studies, and research activities. There will be particular emphasis on work carried out in the disciplines of operations research, financial engineering, management science, and data science (where Springer already has established book series).

The normal term of appointment of the Editor is three years. Subject to the approval of the INFORMS Board of Directors, the Editor will select and manage an Advisory Editorial Board consistent with INFORMS policies on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Editorial Board will be responsible for identifying and handling book proposals for this book series. INFORMS-approved volumes will be routed to the appropriate Springer Book Series for approval by the appropriate Springer Book Series Editor.

The Editor is expected to have a demonstrated record of scholarly and impactful publications within the areas of operations research, financial engineering, management science, and/or data science. Specific responsibilities of the Editor include the following:

    • Select an Advisory Editorial Board possessing a broad range of expertise
    • Identify at least three book proposals a year for evaluation by Springer
    • Provide feedback to authors on needed stylistic and content revisions prior to consideration by Springer
    • For those proposals to be recommended, work effectively with the Editorial Board to identify suitable reviewers for the proposal and communicate these to the Series Editor at Springer
    • Conduct a final approval for manuscripts deemed suitable by Springer

Members of the search committee are James Cochran (University of Alabama), Linus Schrage (University of Chicago), and Douglas Shier (Clemson University and committee chair).

All members of INFORMS are invited to submit comments, recommendations, and nominations (including self-nominations) by June 1, 2021. The information should be sent (by email) to the chair of the Editorial Search Committee:

    Douglas R. Shier

It is wonderful to see this call for nominations. New relationships like this take a long time to set up so congratulations on reaching this latest milestone.

The INFORMS-Springer Book Series will allow us to more widely share the work done by our community.
